A STUDY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN REFERENCE TO PARENTING STYLE

The primary aim of the study was to know the emotional intelligence of adolescents of autocratic and democratic parenting style. 2X2 factorial design was used where two levels of group (Autocratic and Democratic Parenting Style) were matched with two levels of sexes, Total sample consisted of 100 subjects equally divided into all the four groups. Children’s perception of parenting scale (2005) developed by Anand Pyari and Raj Kumari Kalra were used to measure 2 parenting styles and Emotional intelligence scale (2011) developed by Anukool Hyde, Sanjoot Pethe and Upinder Dhar was used. To test the proposed hypothesis Means, SDs and ANOVAs were computed. The results showed that adolescents of Autocratic and Democratic parenting style differ significantly from each other on some dimensions of Emotional Intelligence. Gender differences were also observed.
