A report made by the National Institute of Multimedia Education in Japan, proved that an increase in the use of ICT in education with integrating technology to the curriculum has a significant and positive impact on students’ achievements.

E-LEARNING: AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE IN EDUCATION

The prospect of new India is changing rapidly as there is endless use of IT in every business and in every public service. IT upheaval of the country empowered India to become a service economy. India has a favourable demographic payback. But this dividend would turn into a catastrophe if it doesn’t find a way out to enlighten and make her youth skilful. Acknowledging this and also fulfilling the statutory commitment, RTE was made a fundamental right and education schemes like SSA, RMSA etc. were instigated. But still India grapples with the problems of low literacy rates, lack of good quality teachers and hence hampers the way to procure the benefits of our demographic dividend. To revamp the course of educational set up and to reform the shortcomings in the way of an efficient educational system, E-learning has been promoted as the next break through. E-learning is the learning utilizing electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. The present paper attempts to discuss the meaning of E-learning, its position in India and the benefits it can provide to the educational system.

The main focus of this paper is to examine the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in enhancing the quality of higher education in India. ICT had been emerged as a powerful tool for smooth diffusion of knowledge and information among learners and changed the view of learning from teacher centered to student centered, thereby providing them with more effective ways of learning. A STUDY ON DIGITIZATION OF EDUCATION THROUGH UNDERSTANDING ICT

DIGITAL LITERACY COMPETENCIES IN THE 21st CENTURY

With the advancement in science and technology in the last decade people of the world are now connected through technology. Literacy means being able to read and write. Digital literacy involves digital reading and writing techniques in various multimedia forms. It can include words, texts, visual displays, motion pictures, graphics, audio and video. Digital literacy shares refers to the reading and writing of digital texts, for  example being able to ‘read’ a website  by  navigating through hyperlinks and ‘writing’ by  uploading digital photos to a social networking  site. Digital Literacy refers to the interest, attitude and ability of individuals to appropriately use digital technology and communication tools to access, manage, integrate, analyze and evaluate information, construct new knowledge, create and communicate with other. It also refers to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors used in a broad range of digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs. The JISC developing digital literacy guide has mentioned about seven types of digital literacy: media literacy, information literacy, digital scholarship, learning skills, communication and collaboration, career and identity management and ICT literacy. In a remarkably short span of time, the world and its people and cultures are largely driven by the Internet, smart phones, computers. Some components which are related to digital literacy include computer literacy, network literacy, media literacy, network literacy, scientific literacy. The paper focuses on the digital literacy competencies in the 21st century.

ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS IN MENTAL HEALTH OF STUDENTS

Mental health has become an integral part of all organizations especially schools and this was proven with the proper evaluation of school-based psychology intervention by Educational psychologists that is happening in the schools of Israel in order to enhance the mental health of not only the students but also the educational staff. The results of the intervention by Educational psychologists proved that there was a decrease in the general anxiety, distress and depression symptoms among the participants that came from the schools that laid emphasis on mental health. Thus, it would be appropriate to say that a student who studies in a school that practices intervention by Educational psychologists helps in dealing with their mental health in a better manner.
