HISTORIOGRAPHY OF PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE MUGHAL EMPIRE

With the other historiographies it is evident that, useful conceptual innovation notwithstanding, the vantage-point taken by maritime historians precludes an examination of the pattern of overland and maritime trade between the sub-continent and her neighbours. A perspective or vantage-point rooted on the sub-continent itself is needed; the next sub-section examines the debate about one element of sub-continental trade relations after 1498 which provides the stepping-stone to such an investigation.
