The main focus of this paper is to examine the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in enhancing the quality of higher education in India. ICT had been emerged as a powerful tool for smooth diffusion of knowledge and information among learners and changed the view of learning from teacher centered to student centered, thereby providing them with more effective ways of learning. While we glorify the role of ICT in enhancing higher education system, we also need to assess the difficulties, challenges and problems in its implementation, especially in India. The present paper examines certain important issues related to the implementation of ICT in higher education in India and provide valuable suggestions that would help in the effective implementation of ICT, thereby improving the quality of higher education.
